Founded by husband and wife duo Jas and Mandeep, Balaggan offers premium chai tea inspired by the authentic flavours of Punjab. After previous partnerships with design studios that didn’t fully grasp their unique vision, Balaggan approached us with a clear challenge: create an Indian inspired brand that blends tradition with a modern aesthetic, making it appealing to a broader, mainstream audience.
Balaggan's primary goal was to transition their chai tea from the ethnic food sections of retailers to the main tea aisles, while justifying a premium price point over traditional chai brands. To achieve this, we developed a brand that embodied the family’s rich heritage, seamlessly integrating centuries of cultural tradition with a contemporary and premium feel.
The family’s history played a central role in shaping the brand narrative. The chai recipes and knowledge were passed down through Mamma Kaur, Jas’ mother and culinary mentor, forming the heart of the Balaggan story. This heritage became the foundation of our approach, influencing every aspect of the brand - from packaging designs for the seven flavours to gift boxing, lifestyle photography, social media content, and their online presence.
The final result was a brand that not only honours the family's legacy but also presents it with a modern perspective, setting it apart from the competition and positioning it as a premium offering in the mainstream market.
